Default bye bye engine :-(

So my engine went last night. Rod broke and went right through the block. I have a 5th gen Civic and wanted ideas on a cheap replacement engine. I want to do a B-series swap but I was just starting to save for that. I have extremely limited funds. I'm thinking Z6 cause it isn't all that expensive and I get a some more power from it as well. Also, the shop that I left my car at (closest one I could find from where I broke down) said he wanted $600 labor to swap out the engine with another D-series. Fair price? I've never shopped for engine swap labor costs before and I can't afford to have my car off the road for an extended period of time if I did the swap myself and had to figure stuff out along the way.

$600 is reasonable. Most mechanics hate swapping an engine with a different engine because lots of things can go wrong. If he'd use something different than what you've got in it now, and you can get him to stand behind the work, then go for it. My cousin's shop won't touch anything like that unless it's an older domestic. Make sure you give the mechanic the right ECU and injectors for the engine you're using, and that it bolts to your tranny, and that the axle splines will work or it might cost you more than $600.

Thanks for the advice, I'll make sure I have everything I need. Gonna start looking for the same engine (D15B7) to make the swap as painless as possible. Also, should definitely be cheaper than the Z6. I'm figuring the JDM D15B that has VTEC would be pretty much bolt on. Just need to wire up the ECU for VTEC and everything would be strait. HMO has one for $435 + shipping.

Wow. That's pretty cheap. I spent $650 rebuilding and swapping my free USDM D15b7. I wouldn't sell it for $435.

Go with the D15b it's an awesome price, and it has 5 more horsepower then the z6 as well as 3 more than the y8.

Cool. Need to wait til 2morrow to get paid. You should've heard the mechanic who told me the rod went through the block. I told him I got the car two months ago so he said it wasn't my fault that shit happened. Telling me the car was run real hard (basically saying they raced it), said it had a header, an intake, a performance exhaust and muffler. I told him, I put the intake on less than two weeks ago, there is no exhaust, just a polished tip, and that the rusted ass old header was not aftermarket. So he was telling me that the previous owner raced their stock D15B7 engine with an automatic tranny. LMAO. But he was just talking fast to try and get me to let him do the swap work.

It could have died for a reason, I just wish it had lasted until I had some money saved. Now I'm gonna have to rely on my parents to buy the engine and pay for labor. Although, they just told me to look into getting a new Civic so that I'll have a manufaturers warranty so that this won't happen, time to go shopping.
