help....Vtec
hey u guys i have a non-vtec civic right now. i got it when i was thirteen and i want to do a motor swap, im not new to this. but i havnt ever done work on a car with vtec. the motor i want to use is a DOHC vtec b18/ or k20 and if i have problems with vtec what should i do. and also, how can i tell if the vtec engages, like a spike in oil pressure

If it stops working or sometimes works, check the ECU for problem codes. If the ECU doesn't send the VTEC signal, it will tell you why.
First, it will be damn near impossible to get a K20 into your 94 civic (well, not impossible but be prepared to spend insane amounts of money).
A B18c (either GSR or ITR) would be a good swap for your civic because it pretty much just drops in.
A VTEC motor is not much different than a normal motor. There is really nothing special about it and it isn't something that just "breaks".
Usually you can hear VTEC engage. Your car will sound like this:

alright thnx guys, ya i probably will go with the B18, i just kind of wanted to keep the motor stock and do intake exhaust, then do fuuull out suspension. so i think your right the b18 will be perfect power upgrade. peace
