is it possible to trade my car in with a swapped motor? would the dealer check the vin's?

you migh get more money through a private sale. More likly to find someone who understands what there getting and are then more likly to pay well for it

99 ex with a b16a... have no idea about the history of the motor except it had lower miles than the d16y8 i had.

Sure, they'll take anything. They sell most of the cars they get to other dealers anyway.
