Default 99 Civic CX making knocking sounds

Hi,

I have a 99 Civic CX with 46k on it. When the car is warmed up and I'm stopped at the lights I can hear a kind of a knocking sound coming from the engine bay. It only happens when the tranny is in gear. It's an automatic. When I change it to Neutral or Park the knocking sound goes away. It's not very lound but I can hear it every day.I went to a dealer and they told me this was normal. I could hear this knocking since the car was almost new.

I looked at another 99 civic at another dealer lot and the knocking sound isn't there.

Any suggestions? Does your Civic Automatic make this knocking sound when in gear?

They make CX's with automatics? :dunno:

I didn't think that motor made enough power to circulate automatic transmission fluid. Sorry I'm not more help. I'd be more inclined to think something's rattling or rubbing than something actually knocking inside the engine. Maybe check out your exhaust?
