Default 1995 Honda Civic LX Statement-Questions

Just changed the oil for the first time on this car. What a poor place to put the oil filter! Had oil dripping down my arm taking it off!
I put in 4 Qts of oil, then read the book and realized that it said capacity is 3.5 US Qts. So.............. not wanting to overfill the pan, I unscrewed the drain bolt and let about 1/2 Qt out. Question - will it hold 4 Qts without any problems?
Also......... asked question a while back about my emergency brake light not working. I looked while I had the car jacked up today and I did not see the mechanism for the emergency brake operation, let alone any switch that may not be working for the light to come on when the emergency brake is on.
Can someone give me a detailed layout of the emergency brake system on this car?
Thx.
Bob

DO NOT overfill your oil.. it causes windage as well as ruins your catylitic converter. Rotten egg smell will start to come from your car eventually. also the filter location on these cars isn't near as bad as most.. you should see some of GM vehicles, or the V6 camry.. its a beeotch

the switch on the ebrake is inside the car. you have to take out the console. The it's right at the base of the lever assembly.

4 quarts is fine. Anything more, and you'll have problems.

As for the ebrake light, check to see if the actual bulb is burnt out.

So bambbrose, do you think all these 4 Qts people are misguided?
On the emergency brake light not working............ do you mean the light in the panel? If so, how do I get to that?
If it is more likely the switch in the console, how do I get the console apart?
Thx.

I think some D series use 3.8 qts of oil...while others call for 3.5 I have the 3.5 version so putting 4 in my car is too much.

I think if you have the 3.8 oil capacity then you would be fine putting 4 in but why would you even risk it? I mean if you accidently overfilled it I wouldn't worry about draining it out but if you are filling it up why waste the extra oil?

So.................... is the emergency brake light not working more likely the bulb bad or the switch bad?
If the former, then how do I get to the bulb in the panel?
If the latter, then how do I get the center console apart?
Thx.
