Default Transmission Q, 03 civic

Just a question on the automatic transmission for a 03' civic ex. Should you be able to move the shifter to different gears without first pulling the shift release button. In other words mine moves without pushing in the button. Is this a problem, is it normal? I figure not as long as I don't bump it.
So what do you all think.

Okay, so you can without pushing in the button. What about from reverse to neutral it does that too. I haven't tried moving it out of park yet. Basically I am trying to find out is there something wrong with my transmission. The manual says nothing about being able to move it without pushing the button. When it refers to shifting it always says to hold the button in.

I hold it in anyways, but it just sort of worries me that it can move without it.

well yes you can from reverse to nuetral then to drive but not from drive to reverse...also from drive to like 3 or 2 depending on model...i dont know cause i have a manual...its normal no need to worry...unless it does something weird like move on its own or makes crunching noise or the like
