Yes, I believe it was the '99-'00 Civic EX (D16Y8) that doesn't have VTEC on the valve cover. Are you trying to determine if your motor is VTEC?

Im pretty sure that by now you figured out that your engine has VTEC, but...

If your plugs are in the front you have VTEC
if theyre in the back you dont

Yeah...I have a 98 civic and I have a D16Y8 and mine doesn't say VTEC on it. The reason it is that way is because it is a SOHC engine. All or most of the DOHC engines that I have seen have it on them. I guess they ran out of room on the SOHC cover and just put HONDA. If you really want it, some sites sell valve covers that are different colors and have VTEC on them even through they are SOHC.

^^And that too^^ check the plugs

About half of the D16Z6's produced didn't have it on the cover either.

So the cover doesn't say VTEC, big deal. You still have it.

thats not accurate... all 96-00 d series engines have the plugs in front.. regardless if they have vtec or not.... and only some of them have vtec on the valve cover.
