parts falling off my car= good
i know thats sad. whenever my car was really pushed, i would hear this horrible horrible rattling noise. i bugged out thinking it was my tranny or something, but alas, i have no money, so i figured i'd have to deal with it until i got my tax return.
well, i was walking back from class and i see something sticking out from the bottom of my car. at first, i thought i had run over something and whatever it was was stuck to the bottom of my car. i poked it a bit (my car hadn't been on in a couple of hours) and whatever it was fell down even more, but not completely. too scared to pull it off, i got in my car and called my mechanic friend. i drove a bit and i hear whatever it was rattling really bad, then after like 10 seconds it fell off. i went and got it, and i'm pretty sure it was just some kind of heat shield. where it attached the holes were all rusted out. but hey, the rattling stopped, so assume that was the source of the problem.
anyways, should i be concerned about this? from what i know about heat shields its no biggie, but i just wanted to double check

how big is it? is it odd shaped? when I installed my fron sway bar i had to remove a small odd shaped(curved a little) heat shield (metal, rusted)from the underside of my car above the exhaust pipe...everyone I talked to said its no problem to remove it.
If this was the same for yours I wouldn't worry about it. But it might be the same thing. :dunno:

Yea it's gotta be the heat shield for the cat. There's another part on the top of it...if you start to hear some vibration rattling at low rpms, just go under your car and take it off, or have someone help you out.
I did that to my car at separate times, the bottom part started to bottom out so i just ripped it off. Is it about 1 ft. long by about 6", with about a 3" concave part to it? And slots at the ends? If it does, it's just the catalytic converter heat shield.
