Default RPMs jump at idle and car boggs down when accelerating

1989 Civic Stationwagon, 1.5l, 5 speed, non 4wd or awd (whichever one was an option)

Sometimes the RPMs jump around during idle and car makes noises (like a small backfire). When accelerating and generally any RPMs lower than 2 and 1/2 the car seems to bogg down. I have changed the fuel filter, ran fuel injector cleaner through it and plan on a tune up. (last one was at 103k. car has 139k now) also recently replaced the air filter. I was wondering if this a common problem or what it may be, if anyone has any ideas.

The only reason I asked about the sparkplug and wires, is that I had a similar problem at the low RPMS as well. Sure enough, I changed those, and the problem went away.

I agree. Change your plugs before anything else. That's most likely it. There's always a possibility it's one of the sensors around the throttle body (MAP or TPS) but if you're not getting any codes, I would think it's plugs.

Hey guys, i just finished my spark plug change and when I changed the last plug, it was drowning in oil. What could this be? Is it very expensive?
is it difficult to fix? Should I not drive the car till it's fixed?
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!
