Del Sol / EG Hatch weight comparison
According to Edumnds.com:
Del Sol S curb weight: 2295 lbs
Del Sol Si curb weight: 2414 lbs
Del Sol VTEC curb weight: 2522 lbs
EG VX curb weight: 2094 lbs
EG CX curb weight: 2108 lbs
EG DX curb weight: 2178 lbs
EG Si curb weight: 2390 lbs
Obviously the EG VX is extremely light, but the Si is heavier than the S. Why aren't Sols used more for racing?
Discuss.

Because you don't find many girls on the track?
You guys know I'm kidding. I see a lot of guys driving them. I can barely fit in a Del Sol. It's uncomfortably small to me being 6'4". Also, my CX weighs what a Del Sol S weighs WITH ME IN IT, and I have the same engine the S has... 200lbs makes a lot of difference when you're only making ~110 hp (CAI, .020 overbore, 2" cat-less exhaust).

My Del Sol on a recent scale weights 2335 without me the spare tire and jack in it.. not bad. The Del Sol is very competitive in SCCA IT racing more so than the GSR or the Civic SI because of the weight it gets to run at. It also would be a good car for h3 and h4 for the Honda challenge, most of the lack chassis stiffness can be taken care of via a cage and the sorter wheel base of the Del sol vs and integra and civic coupe is generally an advantage.
One of the best looking Del Sol race cars I have seen.
This is Sam Lockwoods' Del sol, he has another he is building fro enduro's.
Also in racing most race series have weight limits that cars run at so street weight is not that big of deal, most Del sol run at 2305 just like the 92-95 civic coupe, and they do not have any problem making that weight. One of the things that makes the sol heavy is that all of them came with power windows for the doors and the back. in reality they are not that heavy, but more than the CRX they replaced.

Sound deadening/Tar, lack of power steering on the VX, 10 gallon fuel tank versus 12 gallon fuel tank. lots of things here and there.

For the VX, rims play a part. IIRC, rims are the only difference between the CX and VX.

Basically the only thing powered on a cx or vx is the brake system, and you'll be hard pressed to find a car without that these days (no pun intended).
