Default Jdm D15b

Now, I have seen these little motors all over the place online and this website in particular. I know that they have 130 HP stock, 3 stage VTEC, an equal performer as the D16Z6,blah blah blah. Now one thing that I couldnt find is, is what ECU would I use? I would imagine the D16Z6 ECU but not quite sure. I know that the D16Z6 tranny will bolt up to the D15B without any problems. Are there any other quirks or tricks of the trade to maximize the swap?

I just got one, bolts up fine, supposed to be a pretty good motor too.

My best guess is to try to find the JDM D15B ECU. The 3 stage VTEC may not work right without it.

I remember our member REDCIVIC had a few problems with it using the D16 ECU.

This may be another stupid question, but what kind of aftermarket products are available for the JDM D15B? Like as far as internals go, such as cams, pistons, etc. My motor is starting to give out but was overall satisfied with the D16Z6. I guess a mild street build-up. Couldnt find too much info other than stock specs on the motor. Thanks!!

I would suggest getting another D16 if you plan on doing internals. The D16 is already limited on aftermarket cams, pistons, etc. The D15B would be more limited unless they share the same components. You might also run into the problem of the 3 stage VTEC getting in the way of aftermarket cams.

Thanks asiandood. Thats kinda what I figured. I guess I'll go back to the D16 but on the other hand, I'm also looking at a B18B. Now, I have the choice of doing a D16 and turbo(just a Greddy 15G kit) or the B18B with just i/h/e. I figured it being the same money. Its hard to make a choice such as this being how whatever you decide you must stick to without losing an arm and a leg in the process. Thanks for the help.

i think the only internal differences between a D15 and D16 is the stroke (crankshaft), so any pistons or conrods that work with the D16 will work in the D15 just fine...

from what i understand its virtually the same engine with less bore.

now i don't understand the 3 stage vtec very well, but wouldnt that be controlled through the solenoid and the ECU? Or are the configurations of the camshafts different as well?

this is very useful as well.

I believe the correct ECU for the D15B is the P09. The problem with using that ECU is that it's looking for a 1 wire O2 sensor so you'd have to work that one out... I also recommend the D16Z6 because of the internal products available. Doood nailed this one. :goodjob:

Several people use the p28 with no trouble on this motor.
