Default Shake, Rattle and... well shake

While driving home from college for spring break, I noticed that when my car (95 cx hb) hit speeds around 85mph my car started to shake (vibrate, shimmer or what ever you want to call it) a lot (the entire car). I was wondering what kind of modification would help reduce this shaking. My first thought would be suspention but is there anything else that might cause a car to shake a lot at high speeds?

How old are your tires?

I am quite the noob so I have no clue what the wheel balance of my car is. Or what any wheel balance is. If it's something I could check myself I would be willing to do so or is that something a shop would have to do. But the more I ask the more I learn

I say that your tires may be out of balance. They balance tires when they put them on rims so its nothing you can check yourself. Its also a possibility that you have flat spots in your tires (this is commonly caused by a car sitting for long periods of time). I would take it to a tire shop and have them check it out and see if anything is wrong with your tires.

Rebalance tires first, or check for bent rims, then maybe new tires. If that still doesn't work then have someone look at the tie rods, ball joints and wheel bearings. It's probably just wheel balance.

First check if your tires have the right air pressure, at any gas station, if not fill’um up.
Then do the rest.

From the movie "My Cousin Vinny"

"Yous got mud in yo tires"

If you get mud/dirt/grease/snow caked around the inside of the rim, it can throw the rotational balance off of your wheel.

absolutely no disrespect.. but i bet most almost ten year old economy cars with no upgraded parts shake a little at the 90 mph mark..

but you can check the things mentioned.... be careful driving that fast on old (maybe economy) tires... some tires can barely handle that brand new....

all it takes is a blow out at that speed and you will more than likely die..
