Word.

From my experience, there is not much you can do with an automatic Honda, it is one of their weakest links. If you upgrade it with a Turbo, you'll just kill the tranny quicker, that is unless you get it built up... but comes down to not being worth it. Mod out the Evo, use the Civic as a beater.

My gf has a 98 Ex auto and before that a 91 Dx auto and we never had any problems. The 91 actually kept up with a 94+ Teg LS from a red light and we only had a home depot intake and 2in custom exhaust. I would first suggest flushing out the tranny. Then go for an intake, header, and bolt-on free-flow cat. My gf currently has all that cept for the header and it's already pretty decent, ppl get surprised by the jump she gets and the sound of the custom intake is insane. We haven't gone with an exhaust yet mainly due to funding but we're gettin there. An auto is only really bad when you get really high HP figures, but if he was to say bolt-on a Edelbrock kit, he would be fine with a tranny and oil cooler, maybe even just the tranny cooler. Don't forget, there is less percentage mistake with an auto on a launch compared to manual obviously depending on driver, but there is still that percentage. Good luck withy your EK and don't let others influence your car, if you like the auto then do what you can with it, it may not be alot compared to a manual, but you can still upgrade performance wise to a pretty decent level that would give most cars a run.

I sold it and bought a 94 EX 5 speed.... Much better.... Alot more to do to it and not have to worry bout the tranny slowing me down or breaking.

Sell it and get an Si, EX 5 spd or an Integra! I'm sure everyone has their favorites, but what do you all think is the best staring point for an everyday car that can be made to run in the sub 5's (0-60) without breaking the bank or the cars back after a couple of runs around town? Like I said the EVO spoiled me bad with sub 4's (0-60). But that car was a lot of bucks to start with.

I'd be going after a 3rd gen integra gsr. Hopefully obd1. Easy to mod, pretty quick to begin with, and TONS of aftermarket support. One nice thing is that a lot of civic guys use gsr motors and don't keep them around all that long, so aftermarket parts are cheap used, and easy to find.

to make a civic competitive, and sub 5's in the 0-60

you'll be breaking the bank.
