Default help me understand wheels:(

The next thing for me to do to my car is replace the 14 inch stock wheels. After much frustration, and searching, I still do not understandanything about fitting tires on my car. i dont know what an offset it. and many websites that i go to dont make rims that fit my car. I want to get 15 inch ROTA grids, or else the slipstream. probably the stripseam, bc I think it weighs a few pounds less. anyways, I hear people talk about having those rims in this forum, so i know that they have to make a set that wil fit my 97 ex. Help or links would be much appreciated. sorry if this is a broken record for some of you. thanx

You are going to be looking at around anywhere near a +40 offset.

Wheel pattern on a Civic is 4x100

Most common sizes

15x6" or 6.5" wheel w/195/50/15 to 205/50/15 tire
16x7" wheel w/205/45/16 tire
17x7" wheel w/205/40/17 tire
18x7" wheel w/205/35/18 tire

tire is measured like this:

205=width in mm
45=measure of inside diameter where it meet rim to outside diameter where it meets pavement in % of the width
16=size of rim for tire

I don't recommend anything over 16". Too big and too heavy.

Get some Rota's

Wheel offset is basically the distance from the centerline of the rim to the inside mounting surface. Just in case you were wondering...

I found this helpful picture telling you what an offset is. Usually you should always use what the stock wheels offset is. For a civic, it's around a positive 40mm offest.
