Default Advice on Forced Induction?

Hi, everyone. This is my first post, so please bear with me.

I have a Civic EX 5spd, no intake/exhaust/engine mods, and I've been contemplating forced induction, due to the dollar/horsepower ratio being better than the usual bolt-on mods. Two kits that caught my eye are the Jackson Racing supercharger kit, and the Edelbrock PerformerX turbocharger kit. I've done plenty of research on both, and their owners all seem very satisfied. However, given my needs and driving style, I'm starting to lean toward the JRSC. And after price-shopping around I found that landspeedracing.com is selling the JRSC kit for $2349.99, while Edelbrock kits are running upwards of $3400 elsewhere.

Keep in mind that this is NOT a race car, it's a street/commuter car which doesn't plan on racing anything or anyone. Do you think Edelbrock is worth the extra $1000? Or should I just stick with the JRSC? I'd like to hear from owners of both the JRSC and Edelbrock kits. Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

So why are you trying to boost it?

Ummm... isn't $2500+ a lot to spend if you are not going to be racing?

Well, the thing is, I want something faster and with more low end grunt. And for passing, merging, and well,, okay I guess I might race once in a while! But I'm not going to race people at every stoplight (I guess I should have said that instead). I actually looked into the usual intake/header/pulleys thing, but almost all the gain there is over 4500 r/min, according to the mags. yeah, $2500-3500 is a hell of a lot, but people say that the difference is more noticeable than bolt-ons. I'm still trying to make up my mind on all this, but damn... the Edelbrock looks yummy! (have you seen the dyno charts? 176 whp!).

well its just a matter of what he wants...the supercharger has constant boost at all times even at idle and the turbo has to spool up at a certain rpm in order to make all that power.....but then again the supercharger only has limited boost settings like after you get the SC you can get the high bost pulley and then thats just about it for uping the boost but for turbos you have a larger range of hook ups to make you get more boost...IMO id go with the turbo if i were to be racing but if it were just a daily commuter than the SC would probebly be the way to go since it has a warrenty on it. i think JR says 100k miles?

Maybe with $3000 you could ditch the Honda and buy a faster car

Thanks, guys. Yeah it's kind of hard to decide because both kits are really cool in their own special ways. The JRSC does have a 2 year warranty (they don't record mileage, so I don't get why they say 100k miles), although I've heard you've got to watch out for "detonation" on the JRSC (that might just be a rumor). The Edelbrock kit never detonates (I'm told), because it has this aluminum "intercooler" which cools the intake charge on its way to the engine, but apparently the intercooler works best only when you're moving fast.
Hey, does anyone know if those AEM pulleys make a difference on a FI car?
Thanks again.

I was not argueing the point of a SC I am saying that JRSC the brand is a huge peice of shit....I would rather get a vortech or something along those lines...two of my buddies had the JRSC and they leaked oil and gave them nothing but trouble.

The problem with a JRSC kit is that it has a set amount of boost that you can't adjust (on the fly, you can with pully replacement). If you don't plan on doing any serious racing then you would truely benefit by getting a Greddy 15G kit. It's a full bolt-on kit with everything you need. It runs right around $1300. The major difference between it and the Edelbrock kit is the dual ball bearing turbo and the included FMIC - oh, and the price tag. h:

The Edelbrock kit is really nice. It's basically the replacement to the Apexi discontinuation, but it is also pricy. It sounds like overkill to me for what you want.

If you need pricing on any one of these items, just ask. :goodjob:
