Default Del Sol VTEC or S w/ Swap?

Hey guys, first post and i just need a bit of advice. I'm looking into getting a Del Sol, been wanting one since uhhh.. along time but anyways, i'm not sure what i should get. Either i want to get this nice black 96 VTEC w/ 150,000+ miles for 4k$ or a forgotten red 95(i think) S w/ 112,000 miles for $1,1,00. If i get the S, I was wondering how difficult/expensive it would be to have an engine swap w/ a B18? don't know much but learning, any advice? VTEC or S w/ B18 swap, someone talk $ figures and time, assume a 5,000$ budget. BTW i'm looking for this car to be a daily driver with plenty of pep to make my friends have respect for the del sol...thanks in advance.

No don't listen to g.a.s. (:chuckles: I just got that) at least start off with the SI model. I can't live without cruise control, power mirrors...I guess that's all...

SI has rear disk brakes and front sway bar. 95 came with ABS I think. You at least get alloy wheels. S has nothing.

Just as always, I agree! Though only the VTEC had ABS...in any year.

besides, cruise, power mirrors, abs, etc...all for sissy's, hehe

Let's be objective: for the price different between the Sol and a VTEC, wouldn't it be possible to make up all those details? Would a swap + rims + rear brake swap equal, exceed or fall below the $2,900 price difference?

SolFood: if you're mechanically inclined and don't mind haunting junk yards, you could easily do the power mirror thing yourself. I'm not as sure about cruise control or ABS... they have more parts involved.

If it were me, I'd go with the VTEC. 150k isn't bad on a Honda motor, and you can always save up and swap it out later for a B18C or whatnot. Plus you have all the amenities right off the bat.

Well I have a thing for luxury litbits.

Lets see...when my car is completed, (this is getting quite a ways into the future) imagine a del Sol that thinks she's a Mercedes.

Cruise is a bitch and a half to put in. If you want ABS, you'd be better off finding a Sol with it than installing it...much better off.

But the Si already has all the amenities of the VTEC, minus the B-motor and ABS. For what I want in a car, the S is useless.

Go with the S. I agree, Cruise and ABS and all that other trash is... well, trash. I have a '96 S with a '96 B18C1, and I SHIT ON my friends '95 Vtec. Plus, it's more power, and a lighter chassis.
