That's exactly the range honda uses to base their highway m.p.g. on. Right on Hondaman.

Well I wish I had a 6th gear too. I rev like 4500 at 80 and that sucks if you're driving cross country.

I believe I read on here one time, for every 5mph over 60mph, you lose 1mpg.
you are on the right track.. the tranny in the ex seems more aggresive than the dx/lx etc... my wife had an lx before and the tranny sounded like exactly what this guy is looking for.. (providing he doesn't already have a lower trim model..)

you could probably sell/trade your tranny and end up with a dx tranny and make money off the deal...

I've got an EX.

Awww, you guys are right. I'm killing this idea and just wishing that one day Honda will come stock with 6 gears. Howzat?

I'm infatuated with the concept of making what used to be trade offs into getting both in one package by using technology (ie VTEC). I love Honda for the fact that 160 hp engines can get 36 mpg with iVTEC. Maybe Honda should hybrid the manual tranny with an overdrive housing. When the overdrive is off, it's locked 1:1 with no moving parts so that only the manual operates with no extra loss due to the overdrive gears. Then when you turn o/d on, it unlocks and you get overdrive. Sure, there's some power loss, but it's more for cruising anyways and the o/d ratio will more than make up for it.

Yes, I'm dreaming wildly. But who knows, maybe one day it will be figured out. Look how revolutionary VTEC was.

The vast majority of cars get their best gas mileage at 75.

milage? what about it? you want better milage to save money no?

so why not calculate out how long it would take to get the price of the 6-speed tranny + installation back by saving $1 per fill up. (i'm guessing that about how much you will save and I'm being generous).

if you're going to get a 6-speed, get it for performance not milage.
