Ok, this problem is really worrying me and I dont want to drive my car any longer than I have to with this going on..

Recently I made about a 1200 mile trip, and at the end of it the car was running like crap. Bad acceleration, revving the engine sounded weird. Then when I got back, driving stop and go to school, it was dying at stoplights. I changed the oil, and it has only done it a few times since then, but performance has remained crappy, and after driving it hard there is this decently strong nasty burning smell, similar to rotten eggs, under the hood and in the car. I changed the fuel filter, still does it.

I checked the spark plugs, they look abnormally white. I am thinking it MUST be running lean.

oil levels seem to be fine, possible burning more that normal, but not horribly bad.

this might also have something to do with my possible pinging situation, as posted in an earlier thread.

I am thinking it is the fuel pump, and it is running lean. I am prepared to buy a fuel pressure gauge, but does this appear to be obviously something else to someone?

I'm still thinking it has something to do with the elevation change. TRy resetting the ecu, let it idle for a few minutes, and then take it for a drive...

 

I did try that, no help. Would it really be running that lean from a simple elevation change?

 

I took a trip to Minnesota and my gs-r did the sim. Take a look at your air filter, really dirty? did you use some odd fuels on your trip? ethanol? your fuel filter maybe? mine was a combination of ll the things my exhasut was getting red hot and wouldn't want to start!!!! I was doing about a buck ten the entire way. that probably did not help.

 

run some real good fuel injecto cleaner through it as well!!!!!!!

 

thats funny I went from fort worth to rochestor and back, ethanol isnt wierd to you!! just notices that is where you are from!!! take the same tips!!!!!!

 

i changed the fuel filter, and i will put different gas in it, but i tend to think thats not it. I think i will be doing a gas pressure test yet.

 

you know rotten eggs could be a clogged cat, do you remember if you did use different fuels, I would seriously recomend some complete fuel system cleaner, which i very possible changing fuel types and it will make your car run way piss poor and can cause a lot of problems if it is not remedied!!!!! If you can push down your shrader valve on the fuel system and get a huge spurt of gas your fuel delivery up tp tha point should be good. But really check he cat, run premium, add some booster, it has gotta be in one of those things!
