Default 97 Honda Civic Ticking/Scraping Problem ::: HELP

Hey everyone, Im hoping someone can give me some advice here, Ive got a few probs on a 97 honda civic.

When cold started it ticks for a few seconds, Not sure what the ticking is.... however if thats normal then thats fine, but the real question is as follows.....

When your driving down the road there is a very loud scraping sound.... now when you stop and Idle the noise will continue for a while... the oil and levels seem fine and the engine temp is also fine.... it doesnt seem to affect the performance. I also noticed that I dont see the fans running on the engine... not even after a few miles of driving, altho that may be due to the temperature.. which is roughly 40f outside. I have looked all over it doesnt seem like its dragging anything stuck in the car... seems like its coming from the front left side of the motor.

Thanks for any help you can give

p.s. the car is all stock and has nearly 60k miles

sounds like either a brake pad or it could be power steering/alternator belt for some weird reason.

does the scrapping happen right after a cold start and go away after it warms up?

mine does that, but only with weather 10 degrees and below. i figure the oil has just lost viscosity due to the cold and needs to be warmed up. but i really have no idea, i know there is someone here with better incite than mine.

Only happens when moving tho, not exactly sure.... we figured out what the scraping was...

It was the heat sheild above the tailpipe going right under where the driver would be... it seems the muffler shop that my fiance's(its her car) dad took it to didnt use heat treated bolts to attach it.

it still does the ticking when you first start it, it could be viscosity, thats a good idea, I might try a different oil and see if that helps.. thanks again
