Do you not have a rev limiter? That should have prevented that but somethings aren't avoidable.

Rev limiter's can't stop mis-shift over-rev's... those are called the "money shifts"... instant motor killer

Rev limiter can only stop the engine from turning faster under it's own power, the transmition can still yank it up to whatever rpm it has to be in that gear.

That sucks man, 3rd into 2nd? Good luck finding a new one.
