Default How much should this work cost?

I searched the forum, but couldn't find a satisfactory answer. So here's the deal...I need to get my timing belt & water pump replaced, and unfortunately I really don't have the time to do it myself. The dealership said the job would be $400 or so, but that seems just a bit high. Any ideas? Also, is there anything else I should get done on my car while it's in the shop (valves, etc)?

BTW, it's a '97 HX...thanks.

That sounds a bit better...I'll make sure to check around a bit. Like I said, I figured that was just a bit high. Thanks for the reply.

i got mine done for 250 Canadian, how it broke down was about 55 for the pump, and 45 for the belt, and 150 for the labour. they do a quality job and its one of those places you can trust.

It shouldn't be much more than if you were to just change the timing belt. The water pump is right there when you do it. All you have to do is take out 4 more bolts.

$400 sounds cheap to me for a Honda dealership to do it. You want to make sure the techs know what they are doing. A dealer quoted one of my friends over $700 for the timing belt change. The cost is almost all labor.

Thanks for the input. I'll keep looking around...I'm hoping to get the work done next month.
