Do not hold onto the knob while driving!!! I can't stress that enough. You're going to screw up your synchro's. My Civic used to grind in fifth, I'm guessing cause the previous owner used to cruise on the freeway and hold the shifter.

I had a stupid friend that used to push and hold on the shifter with each shift. I caught him doing it one time and it freaked me out

me: What are you doing?! :squint:
him: You mean this? (then he pushes the shifter forward and it makes a weird sound)
me: AHHH DON'T DO THAT!!! You're going to ruin my tranny!@

I mean 5th,

Actually, he used to drive on the freeway in 4th gear going 60. I was like, "there IS another gear." Then he goes, "I only use 5th when I think the RPM is over 3k."

I hated the way he drove my car.

That's why I never let others drive my car.

I've only let one of my friends drive Cat, and only once...and only around in a parking lot.
