Default Holy Crap Batman.

Twas a scary sight...I woke up this morning only and noticed some brownish stuff running down my bumper and a lil on top of my hood. I though someone like my mother spilled coffee on my car or i hit something the night before..

I begin to clean it off with a rag, and when i smelt it to see what it was..... OIL!!!! I open my hood quickly only to find motor oil all under my hood and all over the place...

I try to figure out where it came from..

On my valve cover...where there is about 6 bolts, each with a cap before the head to cover the valve cover holes... one bolt on the lower right hand, nearest to the dipstick was missing...

I look closer and notice the bolt that WAS supposed to be there, had stripped off inside...

In the mean time i plugged the whole with a rubber peice to keep oil from coming out...I drove it a few more times ( after putting oil in of course ) and no more oil is spraying out...

Just curious to as what I should do next..

Dahm Thats sucks I would try to get a small drill bit and try to take the rest of the screw out . And if its not the screw and the hole is stripped just get a bigger screw and drive it in there .

dont just drive in a bigger screw.....if the thing is stripped re-tap the hole and fit the proper threaded bolt into it....threading as you try to force a bigger bolt in isnt really the way to go

To do it correctly, take it to a shop. They will fix it right the first time. No screwing around, no worries. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL!!!

this happened to me recently, when i was having my valve cover powdercoated. when i got it back, and was putting it on, i over-tightened one of the bolts and it broke off leaving half of the bolt recessed and out of reach. when i drove it some oil did come out. i took it to a shop, they drilled out the remaining bolt, put a new one in and wah-la!
parts- $4
Labor-1hour (around $700

its easy just use a narrow flat head screwdriver and tap it to create a small slot then just unscrew it out. it happened to me cause of overtightening also.
