Default engine question...

if you put a b series engine on a d series transmission does that cause any harm or it does nothing at all? Would it make it wear faster?

You can't bolt a d series tranny to a b series engine and vice versa.

fish and e30 are correct. Most major parts have to stay within their own series'.

The Dseries tranny will not work with a Bseries motor.
