Be careful using gunk or any of those engine brite cleaners, they are pretty harsh on paint... I actually used Engine Brite and steel wool pads to remove the paint in my engine bay before painting it... the paint just melted off with this stuff and a light wipe from the steel wool..... check out the pics... http://home.earthlink.net/~h22avid/id2.html click the pics to make them larger... now that's clean:chuckles:

Lookin good though:thumbup: I like when people keep their bays lookin cleanh: ... you definitely have to scrub or wipe with somehting to get your motor clean, it won't work just spraying then hosing

u cant use engine degreasear when the engine is hot. it forms a chemical reaction that turns the degreaser into an acidic state. it will eat paint, screw up wires, erode battery terminals and can even damage the finsh on metals. ya, its some powerful shit. i let the car sit for abouty an hour just to be certain then clean it

Even cold, it will still fade your paint and remove it if scrubbed.

That may have happened in your case, but if you look at my motor, you'll see that almost everything is painted. Intake manifold and block are white, the water pipe, throttle body, accessory brackets, and thermostat housing are painted black. I used the Plastikote 500°F hi temp paint on them, and the finish stayed. I guess it depends on the paint. I didn't get near my engine with steel wool, though. I used shop rags.

I don't get dirty when I work on my own cars. I get dirty working on everyone else's.

Ya. That's in progress. I'll be replacing my whole exhaust setup from the head-back. The exhaust system on it now cost me $33, and it's pretty damn loud.

I've gotta finish the GSX before I can tear back in to the Honda again. I get the block back from the powder coater's shop today. You guys should see the finish on THAT thing... er... wait... I have a digital camera now... you probably will see it. =)

I definitely wouldn't use steel wool to clean anything you care about unless it is bare metal... I used it to remove paint that's all.

All I'm saying is be careful with your paint.... they don't put warnings on the can for nothing... it stripped my oem paint pretty damn good so be careful that's all I'm saying.

Your bay is looking really good though, I hadn't really noticed the white on the block, TB, etc. until you mentioned it... that's really hawt all that clean whiteness in an engine bay:drool:

Wow, that looks really clean. A ceramic header would probably go well with that CAI and finish the ultra-clean look nicely. I'm inspired to clean the hell out of my engine bay now.

You're right about that. They always put that "test in an inconspicuous area" warning that really means "Hey there guinea-pig, why don't you ruin a small part of your hard-work so we can laugh at you."
