Default 92 Civic Cluster Fu@#k

I just got a Cluster for my sons '92 DX with tach. I want to swap speedo's so the mileage stays. Need a couple of questions answered.

1. How do I get the stock cluster out?

2. How do I remove the ODO reset knob? Just pull it off?

3. How do I remove the Speedo and swap? Screws in the back, or the two on the front?

Thanks.

Cluster removal:
Remove the 2 vertical screws just in front of the cluster holding the long black plastic piece with the vents on it.
Remove the Emergency flasher switch
Remove the screw behind this switch
Remove the big black plastic piece with the vents (remember the clock cables should be attached if he has a clock or not so don't just yank it out)

Remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster in
Unplug the cluster (3 or 4 plugs)

Remove the cluster face by pressing in the clips (3 on top, 3 on bottom)
Remove the rubber sleeve that goes over the odometer press button
Remove the 3 or 4 screws that hold the speedo in from the back of the cluster (it'll be obvious once you take the face off).

You will want to replace the entire speedo cluster, not just the odometer.

Repeat all the steps in reverse to get it back in there (Haynes manual style :chuckles: )

That should do it.

Thanks guys, so the ODO reset just pulls off? I can't remove the clear face because the button on the end is too big. I was afraid to just pull it.

And that's what dad's are for, right?

Now he wants to install white guages before we install it :-)

He also just got a shift knob that is lighted. Another project!

BTW, dad has his toys also :-)

DON'T LET HIM DO IT!!!

Glowing shift knob = ricer... you don't want your son to have that title do you??

The little black rubber button that comes out of the trip-meter just pulls off.

You don't replace the odometer, you replace the ENTIRE speedo - the odometer goes with it.

Nice bike btw :goodjob:

Yes, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but I did plan to swap the entire speedo.

If he wants the shifter, that's his choice...I prefered the leather one. But I have to wire it :-)

Thanks for all the info!

Ya.. dam kids have to learn on their own... :uhhok:

I just wish I could have gone back and undone some of the stupid ass things I did to my car. There's no saving them though...

If you get into the speedo project and need more info, don't hesitate to ask.

BTW, the shifter is a brushed aluminum and only the shift patern is illumunated. It's not too ricey :-)

I do have a quick question about the White Indiglo guages. Do you remove the stock bulbs in the back? Also, do the new faces go over the old faces or replace the old faces?

Yes, remove the OEM bulbs and they slide over the top. be VERY careful or you will break a needle.
