Default Can you remove paint from cf hood?

Hey, is it possible to remove paint from a cf hood? i found a deal on a oem cf hood but the owner had it painted red?! would it be possible to remove the paint without damaging the hood? please any info will be helpful or even save me lots of money. thanks

That's kinda hard to tell. Depending on how the shop is gonna strip the paint off the hood and how much gel coat is remaining.

The shop might either strip it by sanding or by chemical. But by chemical, the paint bubbles up and it might also ruin the gel coat.

Sanding might be the best way, but I don't know if they could buff all the scratches out once their done, plus the labor might be too much.

You're probably better off just buying a new CF hood.

Buy the CF hood, strip it, and paint it to match your car.

i would really rather leave it with the unpainted look, any way to just strip the paint and re-clear coat it?

you can get the paint off...just will take time...

wetsand the hood down to where you can see the carbonfiber, then clear coat it.

sohc whore-- you sure i wont ruin the hood? i suppose with worst case, if it didn't look good unpainted, i could have it painted to match my car.. but i really want the cf look

75+shipping. looks like shipping will be more than the price of the hood. anyone have a good guess on how much shipping charges usually are
