Default timing belt going?

what are the signs of a going timing belt? also my warm idle seems to be low, does anyone know the idle spec for dy16 (97 civic sedan). Thanks.

Mine idles a lil over the 500 mark...with my timing advanced by 4 degrees... sluggish acceleration is usually one thing to look out for.... but you just gonna make sure to change it every 60-80k miles, dont wait for it to break...

look at the belt itself for wear and cracks.

just change it at your service intervals. It may show signs of wear, and it may not. But you'll be SOL if it breaks... don't run any risks w/ your timing belt.

ok, have 66,400k on it, no accel problems, except the idle which seems low to me, but as long as others have that, the service interval is like 75,000 or something, just seems really long.

Like dooood said..you could always just check it for cracks and such... or just wait until close to 70k then switch it out...while your at it get a cam gear and sprocket lol joking... just change it at your interval..

yeah, im jsut not looking into ripping my valve cover and so on off, esp i helped my friend do it and it sucked trying to losen the tensioner, but his friggin broke on a non-inter engine though so it was cool, but sucked none the less.
