Default Motor Knockin'

A friend of mines has a 1990 integra Ls it had no oil. Now everytime it starts up he hears a knockin' noise then it goes away. Then at 3,000 rpm you can hear it again lightly. He put oil and lucas. Does anybody have any suggestions on what it could be or what he could do to fix the car?

first off he should stop running the motor and take it out/apart imediately, most likely its a rod bearing, and he will need a new rod, crank, bearing kit and whatever else he feels like replacing while its apart. just remember the more he runs it the more hes gonna **** up, and if he runs it long enough and the bearing chunks get through the oil pump, he could ruin his block

my GSR motor did the same thing thanks to a dead oil pump, it was one of the sadest things that ever happened to my car

anyway, the eaisest and possibly cheapest thing to do would be to get a new motor

If it's a rod bearing, then the noise will NEVER go away.

Wait... it's your friend's car that's messing up, but you'd be the one looking into a new motor? ... Hmmm... Ashamed to admit something? When you look in a mirror, is your friend there with you? j/k :chuckles:

EDIT! Oops. I'm the doofus. Different peep. My bad. I think I might be suffering from brake fluid poisoning from the Land Rover I was working on today.

i'm not sure if i was suppose to take that as sarcasm or you were serious about it.. :eh:

one other thing, knocking isn't always audible and detectable by ear. if it's pre-ignition, then you got a SERIOUS problem and should be able to hear it clearly from all the stress your friend's motor is experiencing. hnoes:
