Default Tranny ?

I know this site isn't for Neons, but my friend has one and it rolls when turned off on a hill in any gear other than 1st. Is this an indication of a problem? Does this happen with healthy Civic trannies? I didn't know where to post this since there is no tranny forum. Thanks

I wanted to know something about this too, when you put a car in park, does it lock the tranny to an extent? Because I know someone that accidently rammed their car into park while going like 20 mph, short story it made a loud cranking clacking noise supposedly and stalled the engine. (Didn't know it was possible on an auto)

Hmm, it definitely sounds like a problem but I dont have any clue to what would cause it.

Does he have the NVT-350? Trying to remember if the neon and my eclipse have the same tranny.

It won't lock anything up in most cars if you're going over 20mph for safety's sake. If you shut your car off going 50, and it spun you out, REAL SAFE!

I just mean that it rolls while sitting in his driveway. If it's supposed to be that way then it's no big deal. He just wants to know if there is something wrong.

It's not supposed to do that. How steep is his driveway? How good is his clutch? Is he riding on 19" wheels or something? Just curious. Can you hear the engine turning when he's in gear? Does it roll backwards only, or does it roll forwards as well?
