Default dead vtec + spuddering RPM = slow civic

I'm having trouble with my 96 b18c1 sawp. My vtec isn't kicking at all. I've checked the oil to see if i have enough, checked the vtec solenoid, and it seems to be okay. But my vtec isn't kicking. In addition to that when my rpm hits around 5 all it does is spudders back and fourth from 4 to 5 than 5 to 6 than back to 5 than to 6. Could it be that i'm having a header leak, or anything. Can anyone give me there views or insight on what might be the problem?

Thanks

Yes the check engine light is on, but when the sawp was done. The check engine light was always on. It was an obd1 engine on a obd2 car.

Well, first off check the codes in the ECU. If it goes into failsafe mode, it won't engage VTEC.

well the thing is, my car was running fine even when the check engine light was on. But a few weeks ago this started to happen. After throwing in higher compression piston, two weeks after this started to happen.

have you checked the codes to make sure no new ones have popped up?

How did you configure your electronics (OBD of the engine, harness, and computer)?

i'm running on a jdm b16a2 piston for now, its a bit better than the usdm b18c1 and im still running on stock b18c1 cams. I haven't checked the codings yet because im not sure how that goes.

Well, I think OBD-2 cars have a service jumper somewhere that when jumped, the check engine light blinks the codes. I'm not sure, because I avoid OBD-2 cars like the plague.

If you read the codes and fix the problems they tell you, there is a very good chance that the engine will start running like normal.

yea lets hope so. By anychance by running a skunk2 obd2 to obd1 harness and running with a obd1 ecu will solve some of those problems?
