Default Just purchased 96' civic

Just got a 96 civic 192k miles, manual, for 2,300. Engine sounds good (always severiced by honda) , but tranny whines, not too loud but whines enough that i take notice when not listening to music. What does this whining mean, and is it ok to drive w/ this whining and never both to fix it? I heard its some bearing but i dont want to spend $$ to fix it, if it isn't absolutely nececssary.

My GF's car made a whine noise from the tranny and eventually left her stranded in SF. The tranny had died on her and she had to pay $800 to get it fixed. You may want to have a shop check it out...

So you mean it only made loud noises in the highway? If so, then mines the opposite...mostly 1 and 2 gear...when i'm in the highway i dont think i can notice it much.

My tranny does the same thing. 1st & 2nd are noisy, but the rest are fine. I havn't changed my tranny fluid yet. I need to.

yeah, the tranny made alot of noise on the freeway, and that's where it died... on the freeway. When it comes to trannies, i really don't know what I'm talking about, but I thought I'd share so you could be safe and just get a second opinion.
