Default Once again I might be getting a Sol...

This one.

This is all assuming Mom's refinancing of her mortgage goes as planned, but it should I wasn't going to be able to get one until summer but I made the point that a Sol will be cheaper in winter and she agreed, her only issue now is whether the funding is ready since she won't take out loans for cars.

Anyone want to comment on whether this is a good deal?

I would see if you could get it for 6500. Afterall, the car IS 9 years old.

Yeah, we haven't even talked to the dealership yet I just wanted to know if it was a good offer, Mom will certainly haggle with the guy. As far as 9 years old goes, I'm rolling right now with a '97 Civic DX 5 speed, meaning power nothing and no tach, and it has 122000 miles so 9 years old with 75k sounds nice.

PS: Mom has a '93 Sol S

cool mom

not a bad price for the car, i got mine for about that price in the middle of this summer ($7200 down to $6900, but mine was a 95 and with more miles) so i would try to drop the price somewhat if possible, because it is october and all, also ask if they had gotten the roof recall done, i hear thats a bigger issue in 93/94 models.

Yep, '95 and up had the new seals.

I ran the car through the Kelly Blue Book used car pricing for private party value, gave it the benefit of the doubt and said "Excellent" condition, and came out with $5585 as the resale price. Now given, that del Sols always go for a little higher the KBB value, I'd say $6200 would be a fair price.

$7k is a little steep for a '94.

The Del Sol is an economy car. If you wanna race it that's fine, but be careful with it. I get so pissed when someone's mother buys them a nice car then they wreck it in a week. I'm paying for my car so I'm careful as heck.

Yes, this is an Si, but it focuses on things you're gonna want to do hence the 1000 dollar sound system. I would eventually replace that bumper with a stock one, but it's not that ricey so it's ok.

BTW do you really want a red car? Personally I like black, white, silver, electric blue, or that S2000 gray. Red and greens just don't cut it for me.

Default Thanks for all the input...

To reply to everyone, in no particular order...

Silver is a color I'm definitely not going with. I'm actually a male cheerleader and a red Del Sol will be bad enough, having a silver one would just make for even more comments. I'd like blue ideally, but the only colors I really don't want are silver, samba green, and I think it was paradise green.

The only racing I would do with this car would be the autocross here at school, and we've never had a car damaged except for people smoking their clutches. The only car I've ever killed was a Ford Tempo that got rear-ended by this girl I went to high school with in her Wrangler, which just totalled it, so I'm not going to be a spoiled brat getting given a rare car and wrecking it. (I was actually rear-ended because I dared to brake for a yellow light). Don't worry I wouldn't forgive myself if I wrecked a Sol.

The Sol S and Si are economy cars, the VTEC is a little less so but still IS economy (and more importantly to me, reliable) and I'd prefer the upper trim of this car. A $1000 to me is just a theft tempter... Sols are even worse than most cars about background noise and any detail in music will spend all its time drowned out anyway, so all I want is an mp3 CD player and stock speakers.

cool stuff

if you get some good aftermarket speakers, the background noise really diminishes. just my 2 cents
