Default Question about the shift linkage

I still have to get the Spring clip for the shift linkage and trany conection, Right now i got a makeshift aluminum pin in there. It was tight enought i was to tap it a little to get it in but i can pull it out easly. Could this be the reason why when my shifter is so sloppy? I can put i in any gear and move it all the way to the right and to the left? Im wondering once i put the OEM Pin in will i get my tight shifting again?

I think so. Did you replace the bushings with polyurithane?

Is the pin long enough and does the shift linkage work? I'm sure that pin is <$5 from a dealership so I'd replace that first. I think the Helm's call for it to be replaced everytime it's removed but I've always reused it. Damn thing is such a pain in the ass. Don't forget the circle clip that goes around it and the punched in section of the circle clip goes into one end of the pin.

Push won't, hammer will do the trick. If you take a bolt and clamp in a small pair of vice grips, you can usually tap it into place that way too. Make sure the bolt is wide enough to not go into the pin and use a junk bolt cause the vicegrips will destroy it.
