Default Engine Trouble !

Alright here it goes. My car has been having troubles starting for a while.. probably a little under a month. It started off with the engine just taking a little longer than usual to turn over, but it would still be fine. Progressively, it's been getting worse and worse until finally just this past weekend, I had to push it and pop the clutch to start it.

Now I checked the battery for voltage and that is fine, so I don't believe that's the problem. I've pushed together all of the wire connect points, and that didn't help. The nengine still tries to turn over, though, and when I turn the key, the engine will make the sound right before it turns over, and the belts turn a little bit, but there is a long pause (3-5 seconds) in between each of these attempts to turn over.

With all of this, I figure that it's the starter that needs to be changed. Just today (for the first time) the engine made a clicking sound when I tried to start it, and I opened up the starter and it does look a little worn out (don't know if it's ever been changed since I got it new in '93. Well these are the symptoms, any diagnosis would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

you could go to autozone and have them test the starter and even have them re-check the battery.

I say starter too. AZ will test it for free. Take it there.

Thanks for the replies, guys. just dropped it off at my mechanic a few minutes ago.. he's gonna call me back in an hour or so. We'll have to wait to see what the verdict is!

Dude, if you can't even take your starter to AutoZone to have it fixed, you don't deserve to drive your car.
