Default Check engine light continues flash

First of all i did some searches about this and didn't find anything that seems to describe this particular situation

I have a 1997 civic EX(canadian version of it, i think it would be an LX in the states)

I went to put some gas in my car and as soon as the guy removed the gascap my check engine light started flashing, before he even started to put gas in at all. Now when i start the car, the check engine light comes on solid for about 10-15 seconds and then starts to continuesly flash

The odd thing is that if i put it in gear though it stays solid.

Thanks for any info anyone might have

PS --- plan on bringing it to the garage tomorow morning to have it checked but was hoping to have a little info before bringing it in

check for the ECU code... look for a green plug in the bottom passenger well behind the kickpanel....

First thing i tried was the gascap, i think that only effects 99+ models though, but it didn't have any effect on mine either way.

recently i had to change the gasket for the oilpan, to gain access they disconected the downpipe from the muffler, i was told that can come loose after having done this. Any possibility that is what is causing the light to come on like it is?

My guess is that it could be related to back pressure if that's the case, but i'm no mechanic so i could be very wrong about that.

found the problem, have to do some valve adjustments, a couple are too tight.

getting misfiring on 3 and 4 piston, wires, plugs, rotor and rotor cap are all new.

checked the injectors, seem ok, only thing left might be some valves that need to be adjusted.

anybody have any ideas what else it could be, if anything?

car has a rough idle btw
