Is water splashing onto the filter in a short ram a problem, or does the filter need to be fully submerged in order to hydro lock? I'm not talking about gallons of water but small splashes etc.
I just want to settle this as I am seeing tiny amounts of water entering the engine compartment through various openings.

Unless you submerge your entire car under water...or at least the whole front end under there won't be enough to damage your engine.....especially if it is a short ram intake as you said.
Just remember to get out of the car before you go swimming and all will be good
