Because you have the same mass of the bat but it is lighter to generate more clubhead speed causing the ball to go further.
In my opinion all of Sammy's records are tarnished now. His 500 HR's seriuosly come into question now. Even if he says he has never used a corked bat. Who knows how many of his HR's were hit with corked bats. To me his slugging accomplishments are tarnished now
