For what it's worth... I just picked up the Abit NF7-S and I'm using an IBM 40 gig on Serial ATA through a converter. The bus itself is faster, that's for sure. I'd imagine with an actual Serial ATA drive, it'll scream.
All the SATA drives I've seen are low seek, 10,000 RPM, and way cheaper than SCSI.
