On Wednesday, May 28, Sony Japan unveiled the new PlayStation X. It goes far beyond the PS2 in many ways. The PlayStation X allows you to download movies and music on to the built-in 120GB hard drive. Along with a handfull of other exciting, yet not too useful gadgets, the PlayStation X will come to North America and Europe in early 2004. Gamers in Japan can get it later this year.

It also comes equipped with a USB 2.0 port and an Ethernet adapter. Perhaps the best part about this new system is its recording system. It allows you to record TV onto the hard drive, much like TiVo, and burn it onto a DVD. All this will add to the suspense for the PS3, which will most likely incorporate some of the features of the PlayStation X.

Sony has also announced a move into the handheld gaming industry alongside Nintendo's line of GameBoy products. However, no date has been released as to when Sony will do so.
