Default Another Aftermarket Wheels Without Lowering Question

I know and understand the whole hoopla surrounding dropping large aftermarket rims and tires on without lowering the chassis, and how it creates an awful "4X4" effect; but someone once mentioned in here something about matching the factory rubber sidewall dimensions once buying the lower-profile aftermarket tires in order to close the wheelwell gap better and eliminate the 4X4 effect or something along those lines; I was putting more serious thought into chrome 18's for my 99 EX V-6, but didn't want to mess with the suspension and lowering...is there a way around getting this 4X4 effect and closing that damn awful wheel well gap if I get 18's without lowering the vehicle?
