damn thats nice to know someone has higher miles than i do...but i have a 2000, and i have 77k.
Just do an oil change on your own time, whatever you choose to do, i would use an oil flush of some sort, and i would pour about a half quart of whatever the new stuff you're adding while the drain plug is still open, to get any additional remnants of the old oil out.
Personally, I would just stick to non syn, 10w30, since you have a higher mileage motor. Keep an eye on your dipstick every 500 miles or so, especially since you just got the car, just in case you're burning oil.
