ive broke one stud in my life and it's because i torqued the SHIT out of it, i was standing on the star wrench, i didnt know that wasn't ok. i drive 40+ into corners, pull drifts on dry pavement, etc. i have never had a stud fail on my civic, and i check them often. hell, ive never had one fail on my 1990. tell me HOW this might happen?
my best bet would he his off chamber, bad alignment and heavy wheels would pull on the lug studs over a prolonged period of time, but honesly i make no assumptions because i don't know everything about the situation, i tend to reserve my conclusions till i have enough evidence to back them up (unless i'm asked for theories)
