the weight difference I believe is not very great unless you find a base model hatch aka the standard its the lightest hatch with most options missing inc the rear wiper. While I love my 4th gen and wouldn't trade it for a 5th gen I would have to say that cost wise modding a 5th gen is definitly cheaper with a shitload of parts available new and used..........
