to beat a V8 in your 4-banger LS is going to cost a lot of money...probably more than you're willing to spend on an N/A 4 cylinder.

just some things to keep in mind:

-cams
-cam gears
-underdrive pulleys
-valve springs & retainers
-valves
-connecting rods
-pisons
-crank shaft

and after all that, and you're probably going to want a stroker kit. This creates more displacement in the block (someone correct me I'm wrong on this part) thus creating more torque. So, right now you've got a 1.8 liter displacement. After a stroker kit, it could be anywhere from 1.9 to almost 2.3 liters.

However, all that I listed above is going to cost you somewhere in the range of OVER $4,000 dollars, not including installation and tuning. After all this, you're also going to want a new ECU as well as a new LSD and probably a new tranny and clutch...theres more money. Assuming this beast is fast enough, you're going to be *required* to have a complete roll cage to run legally at the track. More money. Then you'll probably need a full new set of brakes. More money. Assuming this is true, thats another BUTT LOAD of money that you probably didn't take into consideration.

You've gotta realize how much time, effort, and money is going into something like this before you just say "I wanna smoke some V8's!".

I'm sure I'm even missing about a 100 steps in this process, but this is just giving you a general idea of what you are getting into.
