I'm pretty new to these boards too, but from what I've seen so far racing isn't the main priority of most people. Anyway, if your going to race keep it safe and at the track if possible.

I don't know why you can't beat your friend, but as to your engine question, a Type-R engine does start out with more HP naturally so.. I would think that will be faster generally, but doing that swap is probably very expensive.
