it can, but only to a certain degree. i accidently had a really powerful magnet near my monitor, and as soon as i realized it, i degaussed like 20 times. most of the distortion went away, but there's still some left. i've gotten used to it, and it's not that bad, but i could see it go away as i degaussed.
