when it fires i was taught it has "turned over"
i dunno why, perhaps it implies it has "turned over" to burning fuel instead of electric. perhaps it is a throwback to the old crank-days when "cranking" the car meant stooping at the front bumper and putting your back into it to literally crank it, and "turning over" was when the crank started turning on its own.
