turbo doesn't work with vtec? do you have any clue what vtec is? it allows the valves to follow a cam lobe which gives them a longer lift & higher duration at high rpm. this actually is
GOOD for boost. it allows more time for the cylinder to fill with air. more air = more power.

shorter gears will always give you quicker acceleration. that being said, the b16/ITR gearing is ultimately the best for acceleration. however, most people have traction problems with that gearing, cause it puts so much torque to the ground. the gsr is a good medium, & most of my turbo honda bud's use the gsr tranny.

with a head that doesnt flow as well, a lower compression ratio, weaker internals, & and a longer geared tranny...the ls is definitely not superior.
