Frankly I would hold out only to get a 1988 model b/c they are significantly lighter than the 1989 and newer models. Reason is they don't have the door mounted seatbelts that require lots of extra bracing on the door and they do not have the side impact beams that added some 100lbs to the car. They are on average 150lb lighter than the 89 models.
SCC did an article on a swapped and modd'd 1988 sedan and said it was a real sleeper. It had a longer wheelbase and slightly wider track than the hatch/crx equivalents. This gives it a wider platform making it more stable at all speeds. The scc sedan also had the stocker engine with lots of mods but anything goes in swaps into those cars. good luck
